Macron Criticizes African Leaders for Lack of Gratitude Over French Military Support

French President Emmanuel Macron recently accused African leaders of being ungrateful for France’s intervention against Islamist militants in the Sahel region. Macron claimed these countries would still be sovereign nations without French military support. This has sparked backlash from leaders in Chad and Senegal, who have accused Macron of arrogance and a contemptuous attitude towards Africa.

Chad’s Foreign Minister, Abderaman Koulamallah, expressed deep concern over Macron’s remarks, stating that they reflect a contemptuous attitude towards Africa and Africans. Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko also criticized Macron’s comments, asserting that France lacks the capacity and legitimacy to ensure Africa’s security and sovereignty.
