The Human Cost of the Ambazonia Conflict.
Just as Russians and Ukrainians continue to lose lives in the war in Eastern Europe, thousands of young Cameroonians and Ambazonians are also dying in the ongoing conflict between Cameroun and Ambazonia.
According to various reports, Cameroonian government forces have suffered around 10,000 casualties, many of them young soldiers, some reportedly trained with international support, like the US.
On the other hand, Ambazonian soldiers have lost over 5,000 lives, largely untrained volunteers fiercely determined to achieve independence for Ambazonia and, in their view, ultimately free Cameroon from long-standing French neocolonialism and imperialism through Paul Biya. Close to 70.000 innocent civilians have been killed
Analysts watching the crisis describe it as a tragic cycle:
African youths are fighting and killing each other while external powers appear to benefit from continued instability and resource access. The bigger question many are asking is, who really gains from this war?
Global media have largely overlooked this conflict compared to other wars, as if Ambazonian blood does not matter, yet it continues to destroy communities, displace millions both internally and externally and claim young lives on both sides.
What do you think?
Is Cameroon fighting to protect French and UK interests, or to maintain Cameroonian colonisation in Ambazonia?
How can the cycle of violence be broken when both sides seem deeply entrenched?
Would love to hear balanced perspectives from Cameroonians, Ambazonians, and those following the situation.
