1. The Breaking of Silence
Bishop of the Buea Diocese has done wonders — but not the kind that inspire. Mrs Uche Ike has spoken out, and many of us are saying the same thing: Father, please enter and face the truth.
2. A Shepherd Who Let Us Down
Bishop Michael Bibi has let us down. In doing so, he has lost whatever respect remained attached to his name. Catholic women do not normally speak this way. We are respectable women who raised these men — some of whom now act as though their ordination makes them more important than the parents who raised them.
3. The Crimes We Can No Longer Ignore
I wonder whether the 12-year-old primary school girls that some priests sleep with were the ones who invited them into their beds. A young lady told me she was raped by a priest in the sacristy of the parish church. Did she invite the priest into the sacristy for sex? Unfortunately, that priest is still serving in the same capacity today.
4. Institutional Silence and Reward
Archbishop Andrew Nkea knows every detail of the story, yet he has sat on the evidence for years. And as if that were not enough, the Pope applauded him and rewarded him with a promotion. Someone, please explain what is going on in our Church.
In the near future, Bishop Bibi may well claim that the primary school girl raped the priest in the sacristy. Many Catholic women like myself know some of these stories. We preferred to keep them quiet or to speak privately with the priests involved. Today we are coming out into the open because our own son — the chief shepherd of the Diocese of Buea — chose to confront us ruthlessly to polish a face already covered in scandal. It has backfired spectacularly.
5. To the Holy and to the Guilty
Undeniably, we still have some very holy priests in the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda. To them I apologise. To those who are promiscuous to the core: you are now receiving what you deserve.
6. A Warning to Bishop Bibi
Bishop Michael Bibi, you have been disrespectful beyond words. We, the Catholic women worldwide — and especially those from the Archdiocese of Bamenda — are coming after you with receipts. Do not surrender.
7. A Personal Note of Disappointment
Nevertheless, I would still like to know what happened to my documents at the Vatican. My prestigious invitation remains with me, though it has expired. But I was there. I am disappointed.
