CAMEROON FORMER MINISTER MARRIES AT 85
Former minister and ex-CNPS Director General, Pierre Désiré Engo has reportedly remarried at 85, with reports indicating that the civil ceremony was held in Europe in the presence of relatives and close associates.
Mr Engo spent nearly 15 years in jail.
He was arrested on Sept. 3, 1999, shortly after leaving his position as director general of the CNPS, and detained at Kondengui Central Prison in Yaoundé.
He was subsequently convicted in cases involving alleged misappropriation of public funds. One conviction ultimately resulted in a 15-year prison sentence, confirmed by Cameroon’s Supreme Court in 2005.
Engo was finally released from prison on May 8, 2014, after benefiting from a presidential sentence-reduction measure announced in February 2014. He had been in prison since September 1999
