FIFA: Only FECAFOOT Executive Committee to Decide on Management Recruitment

FIFA says “Decisions concerning the recruitment of members of management structures must remain among the rights and competence reserved solely for the Executive Committee of FECAFOOT”

FIFA recently responded to FECAFOOT’s letter dated April 6th regarding the appointment of officials responsible for managing the national football team. In their response, FIFA stated that they analyzed various documents, including the agreement signed in 2015 between the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and FECAFOOT, which relates to the management of national football teams. FIFA considers that Article 9 of this agreement concerning the recruitment and salaries of members of the team’s management structure must be implemented in compliance with Article 13 of the same agreement.

Article 13 states that the parties must prioritize calm and concerted management of football in mutual respect, the spirit of dialogue, solidarity, and patriotism. The parties must prevent conflicts by setting up consultation frameworks while respecting the scope of competence recognized by each of the parties, and through permanent communication. Based on this, FIFA considers that the principles mentioned in Article 13 must be scrupulously respected throughout the selection and appointment process by the signatories of the said convention.

FIFA also believes that decisions concerning the recruitment of members of the management structure must remain among the rights and competence reserved solely for the Executive Committee of FECAFOOT. Finally, they suggest that the agreement with the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education must be revised as soon as possible to clarify the rights and competence of each stakeholder.
