Mozambique takes a bold step to control its natural resources
Mozambique has become the latest African country to take steps towards exerting greater control over its natural resources.
The nation has unveiled significant mining reforms, mandating a minimum state stake of 15% in all mining projects and prohibiting the export of unprocessed minerals.
Additionally, the reforms stipulate that 10% of mining revenues will be allocated to support local communities and foster local mineral processing and industrialization. This development is reflective of a burgeoning trend across Africa, where nations are advocating for enhanced economic sovereignty, value-added activities, and more stringent control over strategic resources.
Across the continent, from the Sahel to Southern Africa, there is a growing demand for Africa’s mineral wealth to generate employment opportunities, stimulate industries, and drive development locally, rather than solely benefiting foreign economies.
