Cameroon Government forces kill 3 separatists on the eve of a supposed national unity day
The government in Ikata, Muyuka Subdivision, have sh0t dead three separatist fighters whom they had captured a week ago as vengeance for the two soldiers killed by separatists yesterday.
According to our investigations, the three fighters (identified as Perise, Melvin and Mugel) had been captured by the military one week ago and kept in detention. However, following yesterday’s killing of two soldiers in nearby Ekona, this morning (May 19), the military dragged the three prisoners of war in their custody and shot all of them dead. Their bodies were then dumped in the street as an act of vengeance for their colleagues and as an apparent warning to other fighters.
Since the Sunday killings of the soldiers in Ekona, Yaounde has not yet reacted. A group calling itself the Fako-Meme Unity Warriors claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack, which left the two soldiers dead and a cache of weapons was also taken from the fallen soldiers.
It is not clear whether the three separatists killed by soldiers this morning in Ikata were part of the Fako-Meme Unity Warriors.
The spike in killings in the South West Region comes just one day ahead of Cameroon’s national unity celebrations on May 20th, a day often used by authorities to preach peace and harmony between Francophone and Anglophone Cameroonians.
