The Government of Equatorial Guinea resigns after failing to deliver the goods.
Eighteen months after taking office, Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua submitted the collective resignation of his government to President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo on Tuesday, June 16, citing the fact that only 10% of the objectives assigned to the administration had reportedly been achieved.
The announcement was made official by Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, commonly known as Teodorín, through his X account. He stated that the decision reflects the principle that public management must be judged by results, especially since the State provides the government with substantial human, material, and financial resources to meet the needs of the population.
The ruling party, for its part, highlighted two major failures: the encouragement of corruption within the executive branch and the inability to diversify an economy that remains heavily dependent on oil revenues. This forced departure is not unprecedented. In July 2024, the government of Manuela Roka Botey, the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of the country, suffered the same fate after eighteen months in office.
A new government is expected to be announced in the coming days.
Breaking News believes that other governments within the CEMAC zone who have woefully failed their populations in delivering the goods will queue. Equatorial Guinea is practising checks and balances in governance, which are absent in other countries like Cameroon, where corruption has become endemic for decades.
