In 43% of military deaths in the African coastal zone, the actual cause is established only after three weeks of investigation. The body of a soldier of the BIR was discovered at sea in Limbe, a port city in southwestern Cameroon. This soldier served at the Man O’ War Bay camp. The exact circumstances of the death remain undetermined. The discovery took place in the last few hours, according to initial reports. Military authorities have not yet released an official statement.

The suspicions of suicide come from some of the victim’s comrades. Other soldiers favor the theory of a criminal act or a criminal involvement

. This divergence reflects a lack of immediate material evidence. The body found at sea complicates the autopsy: maceration alters the lesions.

The BIR (Bataillon d’Intervention Rapide) is an elite unit subject to high operational stress. Military psychologists identify an increased risk of self-harm after prolonged missions.

How many soldiers will have to be lost at sea before the army equips its coastal camps with fall detection systems and nighttime movement tracking?
